Before You Book

FAQ

The things we get asked before every engagement. If yours isn't here, put it in the first email.

What does an engagement cost?
Every project is fixed-price. We quote it upfront after the first call so you know what you're paying before any work starts. No hourly billing, no retainers. The number in the proposal is the number on the invoice.
How long does a project take?
Most engagements run 2 to 6 weeks. A focused spreadsheet rebuild or a single dashboard can wrap in about ten days. A multi-system automation or AI tool typically takes a month or two. You get a hard end date in the proposal.
What happens after I book the call?
The call itself is 30 minutes, video or phone, no slide deck. We walk your workflow with you and ask questions. If we think we can help, within a few days we send a short written teardown: where the time goes, what we'd do about it, fixed price, and end date. See a sample. If we can't help, we tell you that on the call and point you somewhere else if we know where.
Who owns what we build?
You do. On final payment, every deliverable is yours: code, spreadsheets, models, documentation, and the credentials to run and modify them. We keep the right to reuse general methods and techniques in future work. We never reuse your data, your business specifics, or anything client-identifying.
Where does our data live, and what do you do with it?
On your systems whenever possible. If we need to host something during the build, it sits in an isolated working environment that gets deleted at handoff. We don't aggregate client data or train models on it. Third-party services are limited to the platforms you've already chosen (your Google Workspace, your Microsoft tenant, your existing cloud, your existing AI API if you use one).
Will you sign an NDA?
Yes. Send yours over before the first call if you'd like. If you don't have a template, we have a short mutual NDA we can use. Confidentiality is the default whether or not anything is signed, and it survives the end of the engagement indefinitely.
Can I talk to past clients?
We don't publish client names because the people we work with asked us not to. The work is sensitive — budgets, financials, internal processes, sometimes patient census. For the same reason we don't cold introduce anyone. If you're seriously evaluating a project, ask on the call and we'll see whether someone is willing to do a private reference conversation.
What won't you do?

We don't sell software, take retainers, or charge for "discovery phases."

If we don't think you need what you're asking for, we'll say so on the first call. If the right answer is hiring a person rather than building a system, we'll say that too.

We work alongside your existing IT, finance, or ops team, not in place of them. If you don't have those functions yet, we'll flag the spots where you'll want one before we hand the tool over.

What happens if it breaks after you leave?
Every build ships with documentation written for the person who has to maintain it, not for us. There's a 14-day revision window after delivery for anything inside the original scope. After that, your team can take it from there, you can ask us for a small change at a flat rate, or you can come back for a refresh. There's no support contract. You shouldn't have to rent your own tool.
What software and platforms do you work in?
Excel and Google Sheets, Python and SQL, the major cloud data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, Postgres), the common AI APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic), Tableau / Power BI / Looker, Stripe, and the usual workflow tools (Zapier, Make, custom integrations). We work in your stack, not ours. If you don't have a stack yet, we'll recommend the simplest thing that does the job.
Are you remote or in person?
Remote by default, anywhere in the US. We do video calls, share screens, and work in your tools. For a longer engagement we'll come on-site for a working session if it's genuinely useful. Most clients haven't needed it.

Still have a question?

Bring it to the call. Or email inquiries@atelierconsulting.net and we'll answer before you commit to anything.
